SUMMARY:New Topics: Fleeing Atrocities\, Witness Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful conversation with witnesses to genocides nearly 80 years apart: Holocaust survivor Louise Lawrence-Israëls and Rohingya Leader Wai Wai Nu. This discussion will be moderated by Naomi Kikoler\, Director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide. \nThis conversation will shine a light on the ongoing persecution of the Rohingya in Burma and the unique perspective and voice that Holocaust survivors can bring to contemporary issues. In March 2022\, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken chose the Museum as the location where he would announce the US government’s determination of genocide in Burma. It was there that Louise and Wai Wai first met.  \nTickets are $10. Purchase here. \nThis lecture will be available via livestream. Participants must register. A link will be sent via email 24 hours before the lecture.\nWatch the SNN interview on this program with Robert Tanen\, Southeast Regional Director at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. \nRead more about the event and learn about the speakers in this Sarasota Magazine article by Laura Paquette. \nFind More New Topics Lectures: ncf.edu/new-topics \n \n“Fleeing Atrocities: Witness Perspectives\,” presented in partnership with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Dr. Helen N.
