SUMMARY:Life in Pinecraft: A Conversation with Katie Troyer
DESCRIPTION:Katie Troyer is one of the most beloved personalities in the Pinecraft community. She grew up in an Amish family in Ohio and after living in various Amish communities in the US and Canada she moved to Pinecraft in 2008. Having been born a “little person\,” (a term she often uses)\, she found Pinecraft to be a welcoming community where she is accepted and valued. One of the roles she plays here is that of an unofficial photographer of the community. Through her photographs\, which she collects on an annual calendar\, and on her popular Instagram account @Pinecraftblog\, Katie shows her perspective on the daily life of the unique Amish and Mennonite community in Sarasota.  \nKatie Troyer\nFor this conversation Katie will be interviewed by JB Miller. JB grew up in Pinecraft\, in a Mennonite family with Amish roots\, and has been a witness to the growth and changes to the community over the decades. JB will interview Katie about her early years\, her struggles as a young Amish woman in Ohio\, and her decision to move to Pinecraft. They will also discuss the role that photography has played in her life and the way she wants to portray the Pinecraft community through her photographs. \nThis event will introduce Katie’s photographic exhibition Life in Pinecraft Through the Eyes of Katie Troyer\, which will be open to the public at the Carlisle in from February 7th- 23rd\, and at College Hall at the New College of Florida during the month of March. \nDesserts and beverages will be served after the talk generously provided by Der Dutchman. \nThis event is free and all are welcome to attend. \nThis series is possible thanks to the support of Florida Humanities\, Mellon Foundation\, Der Dutchman\, DutchCrafters Amish Furniture\, Belier Auto Repair\, and the Carlisle Inn. \nEvent Location\nCarlisle Inn\n3727 Bahia Vista St\, Sarasota\, FL 34232 \nMore Events in this Series\nPinecraft: The History and Life of Sarasota’s Amish Community\, with JB Miller | February 16th\, 2023 \nAmish Across America: Growth and Change among a Traditional People\, with Professor Steven Nolt | February 23rd\, 2023 \nPhoto above by Katie Troyer
