DESCRIPTION:Run Time: 2 hr  |  Director: Pema Tseden\n \nHigh in the desolate\, windswept mountains of Tibet lives a shepherd named Tharlo. He tends his sheep and rides his motorcycle\, passing his days in familiar and traditional routines far from the city lights. But when Tharlo travels to the city for an ID card photo and meets Yangtso\, a modern young hairdresser\, his monastic life will forever change. An award-winning\, film festival and critical favorite\, Tharlo brings its characters and their world to edgy\, explosive life. \nPre-screening food will be offered at 6:30. Please wear a mask. \n \nDr. Yidong Gong Dr. Gong joined New College of Florida in 2020. He works at the intersection of medical anthropology\, global health\, African studies\, and China studies. Before he became an anthropologist\, Dr. Gong had a\nprevious career as a journalist at Xinhua News Agency and as China Regional News Editor for SciDev.net—a leading source of news\, views\, and analysis about science and technology for global development. He has visited Tibet twice. \nAbout the Asian Film Series: For the 2021-2022 academic year\, the Asian Film and Talk series will include six films and two dance talks/workshops. This year’s theme addresses issues related to “Identity\, Community\, and Family” from a diverse range of Asian perspectives\, including those of Indonesia\, India\, Taiwan\, Tibet\, Hong Kong\, mainland China\, and Asian American community.
