Helene grew up in Lee, Massachusetts, and is a proud community college graduate. She earned both her bachelor’s degree (Women’s Studies and Philosophy) and master’s degree (Library Science) from SUNY Albany. Her first faculty librarian position was at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she served for 13 years as the Electronic and Instructional Services Librarian.
Her area of expertise is web design and development, Information Literacy instruction and assessment, and student engagement. During this time, Helene earned a second master’s degree from the University of South Florida in Education/Instructional Technology. She most recently served for over five years as a faculty librarian at Tallahassee Community College where she provided leadership for the Information Literacy program as well organized many student-centered library events and programs. Helene has published in the areas of Information Literacy assessment, pedagogy, web design and development, and database usability.
When she is not eagerly welcoming students into the academic conversation and taking great delight in their educational journey, she enjoys birding, baking, traveling and keeping calm in an increasingly calamitous world. You can contact her at or 941-487-4416 or hgold@ncf.edu
