Florida residents age 60 and over are eligible to enroll in New College courses tuition-free on an audit basis. Keep in mind that classes at New College are small and classroom space is limited.

No grades are given for course auditors and no credit is earned. Attendance is restricted to the meetings of the approved course. Auditors do not participate in other aspects of College life and do not qualify for other student services. Auditing privileges may be denied or revoked at any time. The College reserves the right to limit the number of courses audited by any one person.

College students are expected to adhere to certain standards of classroom etiquette. That is, the manner in which students should act when class is in session. The extent of participation in classroom discussion, reading assignments, and homework/papers will be established by the individual instructor. To that end:

  • Please be courteous and considerate of the students who are taking the class for credit.
  • Do not bring guests to attend classes with you.
  • Be Respectful: be on time and stay the entire class. It is disruptive to be late.
  • Address the professor correctly: learn the professor’s name so that you can ask a question or address them when needed.
  • Turn off your cell phone: or set it to silent/vibrate so that it does not make any sound during the class. Also, never answer a phone call during class.
  • Do not pack up before class ends: this can be distracting to the professor and students trying to listen to the end of the lecture.
  • Raise your hand to ask a question or make a comment.
  • Ask the instructor before using technology such as cell phones, laptops, and recording devices.

If you are not sure what is acceptable in the classroom, ask the instructor what their preference is.
