Soak up the sun or just chill out at an afternoon BBQ down at the Waterfront. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sailor, we have programs and lessons throughout the year to meet your needs. We also teach students how to repair and maintain boats.
The New College Sailing Club is located on our historic Caples Campus behind the Mildred Sainer Arts Pavilion at 5313 Bay Shore Road. Our Waterfront Program is just south of The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art with a beautiful view of Ca’ d’Zan, the Venetian Gothic mansion of circus magnate John Ringling. Our coordinates are 27*22.80N, 082*33.89W.
We have a small fleet of boats at your disposal, as well as a few sailboards, kayaks and a canoe. Specifically, we have a Catalina 250; a Sea Sprite 23, two Hunter 216 day sailors; an 18′ Hobie cat; a Precision 16; a 14-foot Track cat; a fleet of Catalina 14.2s; an O Day Javelin; a fleet of Collegiate 420 sailboats; a couple of Lasers; and a fleet of Sunfish.
We offer “Learn to Sail” classes as well as kayaking tours, Big Boat Day Sailing Adventures, and windsurfing lessons! We accept private donations of boats and other vehicles for use in our fleet and to be sold to support our Waterfront Program. We also accept donations of kayaks, canoes and small boats for use by our club. To donate larger sailboats, motorboats, trailers, ATVs and cars to be sold for fundraising purposes, contact Waterfront Manager Dave Pedersen at email@example.com or Recreation Director Colin Jordan at firstname.lastname@example.org. Do you enjoy competition and have a need for speed? Then join the New College Sailing Team! In addition to away regattas and local and regional schools, we also host two events each year here at the Waterfront where all are welcome to watch your team race against competitors from neighboring colleges like Eckerd, USF, Embry Riddle, Jacksonville University, University of Florida, Florida State, and University of Miami! No previous experience necessary – we will get you out on the water and sailing with just a few practices!
