New Scholars

The spring event celebrates the work of our thesis students.

New Scholars

May 13, 2016
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Harry Sudakoff Center

New Scholars is an annual celebration of student research and thesis work.

This event celebrates the philosophy that student work should be viewed beyond the classroom walls, not only to their peers but to the Sarasota and Bradenton communities at large. It is the embodiment of New College of Florida’s mission, which offers an education rich in hands-on research, student-faculty collaboration and independent study.

This year’s program

New Scholars is featuring many exciting talks and interactive experiences in 2016, including:

  • Panel presentations from students who went on a service-learning alternative spring break to a farm in Apopka, Florida, to learn and work beside migrant workers, a Phillipi Creek archaeological dig with professor Uzi Baram and his students and a discussion on inclusion and dissemination of Aeolus, the on-campus, student-run scholarly journal.
  • Art installations in the main auditorium from New College’s talented art students. Costume displays from the year’s performances in the Black Box Theater.
  • Poster presentations will be held through the end of April and throughout the month of May in the lobby of the Jane Bancroft Cook Library.

Presenters, please note: This will be a professional quality conference-style event. We ask presenters to wear professional, business-like attire and present professional quality presentations. Presentations should not run more than 15 minutes to ensure every student has enough time. Program details will be forthcoming on the timing and location of those group information sessions.
