New Scholars is an annual spring celebration of student research and thesis work.
This event celebrates the philosophy that student work should be viewed beyond the classroom walls, not only to their peers but to the Sarasota and Bradenton communities at large. It is the embodiment of New College of Florida’s mission, which offers an education rich in hands-on research, student-faculty collaboration and independent study.
New Scholars featured many exciting talks and interactive experiences in 2016, including:
- Panel presentations from students who went on a service-learning alternative spring break to a farm in Apopka, Florida, to learn and work beside migrant workers, a Phillipi Creek archaeological dig with professor Uzi Baram and his students and a discussion on inclusion and dissemination of Aeolus, the on-campus, student-run scholarly journal.
- Art installations in the main auditorium from New College’s talented art students. Costume displays from the year’s performances in the Black Box Theater.
- Poster presentations will be held through the end of April and throughout the month of May in the lobby of the Jane Bancroft Cook Library.
