Disability Awareness Month

New College will observe Disability Awareness Month throughout March.

March is Disability Awareness Month

Thank you to all who came out for our events for Disability Awareness Month

These events included:

MARCH 3: DIVERSABILITY WALL

  • This event involved students sharing their feelings and personal experiences with a disability by writing messages on a large canvas and speaking with SDS staff and other students. See photos of the event here.

MARCH 6: CHALK THE COURT

  • The purpose of this event was to raise awareness and understanding about the diverse disables in our community.  Student Disability Services kicked off the event at Palm Court.  Personal messages, experiences, feelings, struggles, triumphs and more were chalked along Palm Court and throughout the other courts on campus. See photos of the event here.
  • Containers of chalk had also been placed throughout the campus.  NCF community members were encouraged to continue chalking relevant messages and drawings on the various courts around campus throughout the month of March.

MARCH 17: INVISIBLE DISABILITY PHOTO SHOOT

    • The goal of this event was to empower our students through safe vulnerability. Students wrote their disability on a chalk board and stepped forward in a way they felt comfortable to have their picture taken.

MARCH 21: LGBTQAI+ Parent Speaker.  “Living Authentically and Accepting Your Own Magnificence”

  • This workshop was designed to share tools, activities and meaningful communication skills as a means of supporting our LGBTQIA+ community.

MARCH 23: PET THERAPY with the Humane Society
