Resources for Alums
Alumnae/i Visitation Policy and Access Guidelines
Over the past year, the campus community has led discussions about a guest and alumnae/i visitation policy. The NCAA board was invited to provide input in these discussions and additional input was sought from students, faculty, and staff. What has evolved from these thoughtful meetings is the alumnae/i visitation and access guidelines which can be found here.
Alumnae/i ID card
The NCAA will be offering an alumnae/i ID card. Our student body has grown in size over the years and with the addition of new students it has become more and more difficult to recognize alums when they are on campus. The ID card is one way to combat this issue. The card also offers alums benefits such as use of the library, a 10% discount at the bookstore and more. We’re working with local business now to secure discounts at local restaurants, hotels, and retail establishments for alums who show their ID card.
The card will cost $10 with a $5 replacement fee. This is to ensure we do not lose money from printing, mailing, and laminating costs. You may contact Alum Coordinator Sarah Thompson at sthompson@ncf.edu or 941-487-4676 to purchase a card.
Library access information
The Office of Alumnae/i Affairs will issue an Alumnae/i ID Card to any alum who requests one and pays the $10 fee. If the alum wishes to activate their card with the Library they bring the card to the Circulation Desk at the Jane Bancroft Cook Library. To activate, the alum will complete an application and staff will place a barcode on the back of the card and enter information into our Library Management System. Once entered into the system alums get the following privileges:
- • 6 items from the Jane Bancroft Cook Library Collection may be checked out on your card at one time. Items are on loan for 3 weeks, no renewals.
- • Use of the computers in the ARC (Academic Resource Center).
- • Access to library databases on the ARC computers.
Alum ID cards do not allow for: - • Renewal of checked out items
• Remote Access (i.e. off-campus) to Databases
• Use of Interlibrary Loan or UBorrow services
• Use of library classrooms, group study rooms or labs
• Borrowing of equipment from ETS
Social Media
After careful consideration, the New College Alumnae/i Association decided to officially sunset the Four Winds Forum on September 6, 2012. Affinity Circles, the Four Winds Forum host site, changed leadership in December leaving us with little of the personalized attention to which we are accustomed. In addition, alum participation on the site has waned over the last few years while activity has increased on our other social media platforms.
Due to these circumstances, the NCAA has removed the Four Winds Forum and will now focus on growing our current Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter sites. We have created several small groups on Facebook and Linkedin to mimic those found within the old Affinity Circles site. We will also use our official Linkedin group and the various subgroups as a forum for alums and students to intermingle and ask for career advice and mentorship.
We are currently looking for alums to help us manage our Facebook and Linkedin groups by posting new and diverse content and encouraging their friends to join. If you are interested please contact us at ncalum@ncf.edu. Also, if you would like to create your own specialized group not found here please let us know and we will be happy to work with you on establishing it.
