Letter Dorms

Pritzker, Peterson, Searing, V and Y Residence Halls

Opened in 2007, New College's five "letter" dorms (so named because they were given letters rather than names while they were being constructed) offer both lodge and apartment-style accommodations for more than 200 students. Three of the new dorms have been named for longtime New College supporters, Ulla R. Searing, Rhoda Pritzker and Lee and Bob Peterson.

All five residence halls were built in general accordance with requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System of design practices and construction to reduce negative environmental effects of building and improve occupant health and well-being.

The four lodge-style halls (Searing, Peterson and V and Y Letter Halls) feature studio, two and three bedroom apartments, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom. The halls feature a dramatic, two-story floor plan with central common areas, timbered ceilings and a keyless entry system. Each of the buildings also includes its own laundry facility, well-equipped community kitchen and educational seminar rooms. The apartment bedrooms in the new buildings are approximately 12' x 9.' Studio Suites (available in Peterson, Y, Searing and Pritzker) measure approximately 16' x 16.' All of the new residence halls feature flat and gabled roofs and floor-to-ceiling windows in their common areas to make good use of Florida's abundant year-round sunshine. Pritzker Residence Hall offers urban-style apartment accommodations, with each unit offering an en suite bathroom, and features an open-air lounge and amphitheater, Z-Green, as part of its common spaces.
