Thursday, May 21, 2015
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: New College New Scholars (Sudakoff Center). A conference-style, daylong event, giving New College students an opportunity to present their senior thesis and significant research projects to their peers, faculty, local community and friends. The event begins with a continental breakfast and academic poster preview at 9 a.m. Following welcome remarks, presentations will begin promptly at 10 a.m. 

4-6 p.m.: President's reception for graduates, their family and faculty (College Hall)

Friday, May 22

10 a.m.: Rehearsal (Bayfront)

11 a.m.: Alumni champagne toast (Bayfront)

7 p.m.: Graduation (Bayfront)

9-11 p.m.: New College Alumnae/i Association's Graduate Reception (Keating Center), $15 for alums; free for 2015 graduates and their families, current students and guests.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish
Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian physician and founder of the Daughters For Life Foundation. Dr. Abuelaish was the first Palestinian granted privileges to work in an Israeli hospital and was known for treating patients from both Gaza and Israel. When three of his daughters were killed by Israeli shelling in 2009, he responded by writing I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor’s Journey. A year later, he created the Daughters for Life Foundation to provide women of the Middle East with opportunities to earn college degrees, and to help those women create a better world when they return home. Dr. Abuelaish has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize.


Saturday, May 23
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Open House at New College’s Pritzker Marine Biology Research Center (381 College Drive). Bring the whole family to the annual Open House at the Pritzker Marine Center with marine themed crafts, a bounce house, a scavenger hunt and access to the center’s aquariums and educational display tank. The event is free and open to the general public (no reservations necessary). For more information, call 941-487-4596.

7:30 p.m.: Concert by ETHEL, a new-music string quartet in residence at the Hermitage Artist Retreat will give a free performance of new works in progress. Bring beach chairs or a blanket (and a picnic, if you wish) to the lawn behind College Hall for a sunset performance. There will be no chairs set up for this event.
