- In creating the Foundation, Camille Dreyfus directed that its purpose be "to
advance the science of chemistry, chemical engineering and related sciences as

Since its first years of activity, the Foundation has sought to take the lead
in identifying and addressing needs and opportunities in the chemical
sciences.

- The Hesburgh Award (TIAA-CREF) -
The TIAA-CREF Hesburgh Award and $25,000 is presented to the
college or university judged to have the most effective faculty development
program that enhances undergraduate teaching and student learning.
Certificates of Excellence may also be awarded to two other meritorious
faculty development programs.

- The George A. and Eliza Howard Foundation
- Funds a $20,000 stipend for an independent project in the Arts and Social
Sciences in alternating years with emphasis on particular academic interest
areas in each year. 2005-2006 - Literary Criticism, Film Criticism and
Translation; 2006-2007 - Sociology, Anthropology and Philosophy; 2007-2008 -
Painting, Sculpture and Art History; 2008-2009 - Music, Playwriting and
Theatre Arts; 2009-2010 - History, History of Science and Political Science.

- The Howard Hughes Medical Institute -
Grants awarded by HHMI fit within two general categories: research grants for
individuals and science education grants for institutions. Most HHMI grants
are awarded through competitions that have specific objectives and eligibility
criteria; thus, HHMI does not encourage and rarely funds unsolicited grant
proposals.
