Students find that describing the award can be confusing. Here are some examples that might help:
Your original paper or research was accepted for presentation at a national conference (that would be one award type), and the same national non-profit organization also gave you money to travel to the conference (another award type). Since the organization gave both awards to you (honoring the paper and providing travel funds), it would be considered one award. Select Award to present a paper or research at a conference, then make sure you detail the travel below that. The source of the funds would be Non-Profit.
You were selected to be an NSF REU intern at a prestigious lab in France to work with Dr. Oolala (an Internship), but received travel funds from The Lottamuhla Foundation. These would be two separate awards. Please complete the form twice since they are from different sources. The first would be Federal Flow Through funds (NSF provides the funds to the lab who in turn awards students with room and board and research equipment) and the second would be Non-Profit (foundations usually are).
You applied to work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California over the summer and were accepted. This would be an internship, even though the work you will do may have significance on your own research, the work originates from the lab first.
You are paying your own way to study abroad through a study abroad program. This is not an award, so you would not need to complete this form; however, you should contact the Office of the Registrar or the Career Services and Off-Campus Studies Office
You applied for and received an USF Compass Award to study abroad. This would be considered an external award. Choose the description of the activity as appropriate.
You received a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship. You would select teaching assistantship. Even though most TAs may conduct independent research while in their host country, the primary purpose of the award is to TA. However, please supply in the project description area the information about your research plans while there.
