Dance Tutorial Performances this Friday and Saturday
This semester’s Dance Tutorial performances will be this Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 22, at 7:00 pm, in the Mildred Sainer Auditorium. The performances will be about 90 minutes long. Friday, there will be a reception following the performance. The reception will be held in the Isermann gallery, in conjunction with the Art thesis show: “Faces, Spaces, Sound.” The event is free and open to the public. Due to an illness, Daniel Levy will be unable to speak at the College on Tuesday, November 18. Please join us for the remaining Meet the Composer discussions for 2009 are: Nico Muhly, February 10; Wang Jie, March 17; and Mandy Fang (Fang Man), April 21. All sessions will take place at 7 pm at College Hall on the New College campus. No reservations are necessary, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The College will be hosting this years World AIDS Day and AIDS Walk on Saturday, November 22 from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Organizations from Sarasota and Manatee counties are uniting to continue the 20 year World AIDS Day tradition with a Health/Wellness Expo and AIDS Walk. The Division of Natural Sciences will host the Natural Sciences Seminar this Friday, November 14 at 3:30 pm in the Soo Bong Chae Auditorium. The speaker will be Dr. Soubadra Devy, Senior Scientist for the Ashoka Trust for Research on Ecology & Environment (ATEE) who will discuss biodiversity hot spots in India. Ever since the Social Studies Project of 2003, NMNC has regularly offered experimental music that invites playful participation by audience members. Playspace will consist of musical games for voices - some pieces will be performed for the audience, others with the audience, and some pieces will overlap in time and space. The New College graduate who rocked Sarasota last year with his patented blend of classical music, funk and rock n’ roll is back in town to release his debut CD, Thesis Statement. Joined by some of the area’s most prominent musicians, Silas Durocher and Everybody Knows will launch the CD at a release concert on Nov. 15 at the New College campus. The show is sure to get peoples’ heads, hearts and hips in action. Palm Disease Update Lecture November 12
Dr. Monica Elliott from the Ft. Lauderdale Research & Education Center-UF/IFAS will present a lecture on November 12 at New College of Florida on Palm Diseases. The event is sponsored by New College of Florida, the University of Florida/IFAS Extension, Sarasota County and Manatee County Extension Offices.
