An intellectual-cultural historian known for his impressive range of interests and expertise, Professor Snyder is a specialist in Medieval and Renaissance Europe with an alternating focus on France, Spain, Italy and Germany, as well as the Protestant Reformation and the history of religion.
He served as a full-time faculty member at New College from 1969 until his retirement in 2003.
Among his many accomplishments at New College is the founding of the College's Biennial Conference on Medieval and Renaissance Studies, one of the leading conferences of its kind in the United States.
