Residence Hall Network Connection
In order to access the residence hall data network, it is recommended that you have a computer with certain minimum hardware specifications. Also you will need to plug your ethernet cable into the ORANGE jack. The Grey jack is for your phone.
What the Residence Hall Office Supports:
We ARE RESPONSIBLE for the Ethernet connection to your room.
We SUPPORT Windows XP/Vista and OS X or newer versions.
We CAN NOT install hardware.
We CAN NOT open computer cases for any reason.
We CAN NOT remove hardware if it is installed incorrectly.
We CAN NOT remove hardware settings if it is installed incorrectly.
Configuring the Ethernet connection in Windows XP.
This document starts with the premise that there is an Ethernet connection in the room and that the computer has the correct hardware and software installed on it.
From Windows XP:
STEP 1: Click on the START button (located in the lower left corner of the screen), select SETTINGS, and then move the arrow to CONTROL PANEL. Once CONTROL PANEL is highlighted click on it.
STEP 2: Once the CONTROL PANEL window opens, double click on the Network Connections icon.
STEP 3: Right click on Local Area Connection and select properties. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on properties. Ensure that the radio buttons that are selected that obtain and IP address automaticly and Obtain DNS server address automaticly. Click OK. You should now be able to access the Internet.
