For only the second time in its history, New College of Florida will hold an inauguration for its new president. The College will host several events on its campus to celebrate Dr. Donal O’Shea’s appointment as New College’s fifth president.
The inauguration ceremony on Friday, February 15, is expected to draw VIPs from across the state and around the country. Activities on Saturday, February 16, will feature an academic showcase and panel discussion on the international impact of the liberal arts with college presidents and New College alumni from around the globe, including New College alumnus and NY Fed President William Dudley. An elegant, black-tie Inaugural Ball on the New College bayfront will close out the festivities on Saturday evening. All events, with the exception of the Inaugural Ball, are free and open to the public.
Before coming to New College, Dr. Donal O’Shea was the dean of faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, a top 25 rated national liberal arts college. Recognized globally for his work in mathematics, O’Shea also served as the Elizabeth T. Kennan Professor of Mathematics and chair of the mathematics department during his 30-year tenure at Mount Holyoke. He earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Harvard University and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Queens College in Ontario, Canada.
