Stop 11: Dining
New College's Meal Plan offers a great deal of flexibility, since you buy "purchasing power" rather than specific meals. Cafeteria menus have selections for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. The staff works closely with students who have special dietary needs or allergies. Meals are served in the student union, Hamilton Center, where there is also deli-style sandwich shop which offers snacks, beverages and a small selection of staple items. The student run Four Winds Cafe, located on the bayfront campus, is a place for the meeting of the minds between students and faculty. The popular gathering spot features gourmet coffee and vegetarian cuisine.

Food Service at New College is managed by a professional food service under the direction of the Office of Residential Life. The Food Service Advisory Committee, appointed each year by the New College Student Alliance, works collaboratively with staff to inform policy decisions and ensure quality of products and services. All New College students, including those who live off campus, must participate in the Meal Plan; your level of participation varies according to where you live. In our newest dormitories, the buildings have large public common spaces that include fully-equipped kitchens for communal cooking and dining.

One cannot talk about dining without mentioning the wide array of great restaurants in the Sarasota area. There are many ethnic choices, from Asian to Mexican, and casual places that won't break your budget. You can go out with friends for sushi or ribs, enjoy a meal and music at a popular outdoor eatery, watch the sun set on Sarasota Bay while indulging in fries, or drink cappuccino at the cozy downtown bookstore.
