Schedule

Students depart with faculty from Miami in late July/early August. Arrangements can be made for transportation from Sarasota. Other arrangements are the responsibility of the student. Shipment of equipment will be made approximately 5 weeks prior to departure. Students must assemble personal equipment and assist faculty in packing common equipment.

Once the group has arrive at the RIMS lab, equipment will be checked and assembled. A checkout dive is required for all who will SCUBA. This is done on the first morning. Students should be prepared for field work later that day. Each day students will assemble for breakfast no later than 7:30 am. At this time, morning briefings occur concerning daily activities. Equipment is loaded on the research vessel and all animals must be attended before departure to the field sites. Lunch is generally on the boat for those using remote sites. Upon return to the lab, all equipment is cleaned and the animals are attended. Dinner is served from 7-9 pm. Afterwards, lab work and slide/video work are done as needed. Each week there are 2-3 night dives/snorkels.

Students not abiding by safety rules or who abandon projects may be dismissed from the program and returned to Miami.
