New College Board OKs 5% Tuition Hike for Spring

The Board of Trustees of New College of Florida approved a 5 percent increase in tuition that amounts to a $3.86 per credit hour increase for students in the spring semester 2008.  The increase is for matriculation alone. None of the other fees that comprise tuition costs, such as the health fee and the activities and service fee, will increase in the spring.

New College students who paid $104.78 per-credit hour in fall 2007 will pay $108.64 per-credit hour for the spring semester. Non-Florida-resident students who paid $600.70 per-credit hour will pay $604.56 per-credit hour. The increase amounts to $61.76 per student taking 16 credit hours for the spring.

The increase follows the directive of the Florida Board of Governors, which is the governing body over the 11 colleges in the State University System (SUS) of Florida, for a mandatory tuition increase for all SUS undergraduates approved in September, and the Florida Legislature's approval of the statewide tuition hike in its special session in October. Florida Gov. Charles Crist has signed the Legislature's revised budget, including the tuition increase.
