Program Basics

The Scholar Weekend program is open to 8th through 11th graders who have been identified as academically gifted through the Duke Talent Identification Program or through local school criteria.

Students enroll in one class and explore material typically not included in their school curricula.

The $425 tuition covers overnight accommodations, food and academic activities. A day-student rate of $360 is available.

Overnight accommodation at the Marriott Courtyard will be provided. Students will be supervised by New College residential counselors.

Weekend Schedule
Students and parents should check in on Saturday between 9 and 9:45 a.m.; parents may leave after check-in. Overnight students will leave campus at 9 p.m. to stay at the Marriott Courtyard on nearby University Parkway. Parents are invited to attend the closing meeting on campus on Sunday afternoon at 4:30; students must leave by 5 p.m. A complete schedule will be mailed to each student upon acceptance to the Scholar Weekend.

Financial Aid
Limited financial aid is available on a first-come, first-served basis to families who demonstrate need. To apply for financial aid, submit your application with your most recent Federal Income Tax Return (1040) and all applicable schedules. Upon notification of receipt of a financial aid award, your check for the balance of the tuition (if any) is due within 10 days. If your check is not received within 10 days of award notification, your financial aid and program slot may be offered to another student.
