Charlene M. Callahan

Associate Professor, Psychology (Retired 2011)

B.A., M.A., Ph.D., Michigan State University

Professor Callahan was named New College's first Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs in July 2001 when the state granted the College independent status as Florida's Honors College for the Arts and Sciences.

Following a brief return to full-time teaching from 2007-2009, as well as service as the College's director of the Environmental Studies Program in 2008-2009, Dr. Callahan returned to the Provost's Office in July 2009.

In addition to her duties as the College's chief academic officer, Dr. Callahan is a social psychologist whose research centers on individuals’ perceptions of justice. She currently is exploring the ways in which people differ in their judgments of the "fairness" of outcomes, especially their expectations of personal entitlement.

Among the courses taught by Professor Callahan are Introductory Psychology, Social Psychology, History of Psychology, Social Justice and Conflict Resolution, and Environmental Psychology.
