Research Experiences for Undergraduates
(National Science Foundation)

the deadline for most of the programs that follow.
Academy of Natural Sciences (Philadelphia)
- The
Undergraduate Research Program is dedicated to training students in
collections-based research with an emphasis on systematics, natural
history, and ecology. Other internships are available working with the
live animals and education programs within the museum.
Adventures in Veterinary Medicine Program
(Tufts University)
Close-up exploration of the realities and opportunities of this exciting
and rewarding profession. Week-long program shadowing fourth year
students of the veterinary school.
American
Heart Association Undergraduate Student Research Program
enables students to explore careers in heart or stroke research.
Students are assigned to cardiovascular research laboratories in
California, Nevada or Utah for 10 weeks during the summer to work under
the supervision of experienced scientists.
Baylor College of Medicine Summer Undergraduate Research Training
-About 80-100 students
are recruited across the nation for nine weeks of paid biomedically-related
research in a broad range of areas.
Biosciences Summer Research Programs
(University of Iowa) - Research
programs exist in Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology, Free
Radial & Radiation Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Biology and
Neuroscience.
Center for Great Lakes Studies
(of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee)-
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) paid summer
program in Aquatic Sciences. Involvement in cutting-edge
investigations of large water bodies using modern equipment and

Council on Legal Education Opportunity
(CLEO) -
Six-week pre-law summer institute held on law school campuses
across the country. CLEO fellows consist of both those already accepted
into law school and those needing placement assistance.
Disaster Research Center (of University of
Delaware) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) - Paid
9-week summer program where trainees work with leading scholars and
researchers on projects that focus on issues: disaster mitigation,
search and rescue preparedness, response and recover, warnings and
technology and disaster vulnerability and resilience. For

DOE
Scholars Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE) and administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science
and Education. The program provides students and recent graduates with
experiences and training that will prepare and motivate them to pursue
careers with DOE. The summer internship program includes: ten-week
appointments at DOE offices, laboratories, or facilities; weekly stipend
payments; round-trip travel from home or institution to the appointment
site; opportunities to apply academic students to DOE programs in
science, engineering, safety, finance, project and program management,

Global Change Education Program's Summer
Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) -
Ten-week Department
of Energy program within the Office of Biological and Environmental
Research (BER). Students will
conduct BER-supported global
change research at
national laboratories or universities.
Los
Alamos National Laboratory -National
Laboratory is a Department of Energy laboratory, managed by the
University of California. It offers
many undergraduate internship programs designed to mentor and educate students.
NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program
- 10 week program in which students gain mentored research
experiences at participating NASA Centers and research support
facilities. For students entering junior or senior year. Eligible fields
of study are academic major or demonstrated course work concentration in
engineering, mathematics, computer science or physical/life sciences.
Participants receive $5000 stipend. Application information

New York University's Summer 2006 -
Study at NYU in Greenwich
Village
Over 1000 courses in over 100 different disciplines are offered
through NYU. If studying at NYU, housing is available at reduced
rate in NYU residence halls. Take classes at NYU's College of Arts &
Sciences, Gallatin School for Individualized Study, School of Social
Work, or Steinhardt School of Education.
Program for Research Experience in Pathology (University of
Alabama)
Ten-week program working in the laboratories of scientists in the
Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama Medical Center on
projects related to the molecular basis of disease.

Summer Ecosystem Experiences for Undergraduates (Columbia University)
Five-week field ecology experience In
Brazil,
Caribbean, or Hudson River. The program allows students to study
individual biomes in local, regional, and global contexts.
Summer Medical
and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) -
Free (full tuition, housing, and meals) six-week summer medical and
dental school preparatory program that offers eligible students
intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation. For
1st and 2nd year students only.
Summer Systematics Institute (California Academy of Sciences)

Eight week paid program matches seven
undergraduate students with Academy scientists to conduct research, as
well as participate in tours, seminars and lectures related to
biodiversity, evolutionary biology and global change.
Summer Workshop - Slavic, East European, Central
Asian Languages
(Indiana University) - Russian
program, East European Program, Baltic Studies Summer Institute, Program
in the Languages of Center Asian and the Caucasus.
Wild Rockies Field Institute
With the Wild Rockies Field
Institute, students learn about environmental issues and the threats to
specific ecosystems while traveling in the field. College credit is
offered through the University of Montana. Course areas range from
Alaska to Yellowstone.
