Four times a year, USA TODAY honors outstanding students and
educators with the All-USA Academic and Teacher Teams. The students
— high school, two-year college and four-year college — each receive
$2,500 cash awards.
American
Chemical Society's Scholars Program
This
program helps academically gifted minority students with financial
need who are African-American, Hispanic and Native-American pursue
college studies in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry,
environmental science and related chemical sciences. Open to college freshmen,
sophomores, and juniors.
Arthur
R. Marshall Foundation
The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation is a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and
preservation of the greater Everglades ecosystem. The
Foundation considers reforestation of Florida’s ancient cypress
forests and the reestablishment of sheet flow from the Kissimmee
River to Florida Bay its prime objectives.

A. Gilman International Scholarship (for Study Abroad)
The
Institute of International Education (IIE) accepts applications for
the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Sponsored by the
U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
and administered by IIE, the program enables students with limited
financial means the opportunity to participate in study abroad
opportunities worldwide. Awards up to $5,000
for U.S. citizen undergraduate students. Eligibility requirement: Students must
receive the Federal Pell Grant at the time of

David W. Miller Award for Student Journalists
David W. Miller, a senior writer at The Chronicle of Higher
Education, was killed at the age of 35 by a drunken driver. Miller's outstanding career was distinguished by
two hallmarks: his insatiable curiosity about people and the world
of ideas, and his love for precise and evocative writing. With this
award, The Chronicle seeks to pay tribute to Mr. Miller and
identify and nurture future generations of student journalists who
are as interested in big ideas and excellent writing as he was.
Department of Energy's Fellowship & Internship Program

Elie Wiesel Foundation

Program Description: The Foundation sponsors an annual
essay contest for junior and senior college students about
ethical questions/issues facing them in this complex,
rapidly-changing world.
Excellence in Service Awards
Any full-time college student at an accredited Florida higher
education institution, public or independent may apply for this
award. It is $1000 given annually to three student volunteers
for outstanding service to Florida's communities.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Research Fellows
Program
The
FDIC's Division of Insurance and Research seeks Economic Assistants
in the Research Fellow Program in Washington, D.C. This office
is the primary source of economic, financial and statistical

Native Plant Society Grant
The
purpose of the Florida Native Plant Society is to promote the
preservation, conservation, and restoration of the native plants and
native plant communities of Florida. An
Endowment Fund is maintained the purpose of funding research on
native plants. Anyone may apply for a grant, not to exceed $1,000.
Preference will be given to FNPS members, but this is not a
requirement.
Freeman-Asia Awards for Study Abroad in Asian Nations

The
aim of the Freeman-Asia program, available through the Institute for
International Education (IIE) is to provide freshman, sophomore and
junior undergraduates with information about and financial resources
to study in Asia. Applicants must receive financial aid or have
verifiable need. Priority is given to students with no prior
experience in the country in which they plan to study. Eligible
countries are Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea,
Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan,
Thailand and Vietnam. Within 3 months after return from study
abroad, awardees must begin fulfilling a service requirement to
promote study abroad in Asia on their home campus and share their
knowledge with their community.
Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) Scholarships for Freshmen
Students
Freie
Universitat Berlin offers
25 full scholarships to freshmen students who have just completed
their first college year to attend the 6th International Summer
University at Freie University Berlin (FUBiS 2003), which will take
place from July 19 through August 15, 2003. The Freie Universität
International Summer University is an intensive 4-week program
offering 20 courses covering topics on Berlin, Germany and Europe.
Courses include Contemporary History, Political Science, German
Studies, Film Studies, Urban Studies, Modern Languages, Art History,

Government Scholarship

Library of Congress Junior Fellows Program (Washington, D.C.)
Fellows
assist selected divisions in fulfilling their mission to reduce
arrearage by organizing and documenting archival collections,
producing finding aids and bibliographic records, preparing
materials for preservation and service, and doing bibliographical
research. They will contribute to the Library's efforts to
digitize its historical collections.
Applicants

Fellows receive a taxable stipend of $300 per week.
Fellowships
last 2-3 months during the summer and are full-time. The

Marshall Scholarship
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to
study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are
selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally
undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study.

Monbukagakusho Scholarship (for research
studies at Japanese universities)
To
date, some 55,000 students from approximately 145 countries and
regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese
Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program established in 1954.
There are seven types of Japanese government-sponsored scholarships
available under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship
program: those for research students, teacher training students,
undergraduate university students, Japanese studies students,
college of technology students, special training students and Young
Leader Program students.

Florida House of Representatives' Speaker's
Legislative Fellowship Program
The Legislative
Fellowship provides post-baccalaureate students with hands-on
experience in the legislative process while pursuing their graduate
studies. Students will be assigned to the Speaker's Office and
serve as assistants to the Speaker's policy directors. From
September-January, students work 20 hours/week; during spring
semester, they may work up to 40 hours/week. Pay is $13 for
2003-04. The House of Representatives will also pay for up to 24
hours of in-state graduate tuition.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Office of
Grants & Special Programs
The
largest privately funded education initiative of its kind in the
United States, HHMI's grants program is enhancing science education
for students at all levels, from the earliest grades through
advanced billion in grants. Grants awarded by HHMI fit within two
general categories: research grants for individuals and science
education grants for institutions. Most HHMI grants are awarded
through competitions that have specific objectives and eligibility
criteria. Except for the medical student fellowship competition, the
international research scholar competitions, and the HHMI-NIH
research scholar competition, application is by invitation only.
Howard Simons Journalism Fellowship

seniors, or graduate students or recent graduates.
Fellows receive a taxable stipend of $300 per week.
Fellowships last
2-3 months during the summer and are full-time. The application
deadline is early April.
Marshall Scholarship

Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a
degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each
year to study either at graduate or occasionally undergraduate level
at an UK institution in any field of study.

Monbukagakusho Scholarship (for research
studies at Japanese universities)
To date, some 55,000 students from
approximately 145 countries and regions around the world have
studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho)
Scholarship program established in 1954. There are seven types of
Japanese government-sponsored scholarships available under the
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program: those for
research students, teacher training students, undergraduate
university students, Japanese studies students, college of
technology students, special training students and Young Leader
Program students.

New York City Teacher Fellowships
Teachers College, Columbia University and the Petrie Foundation
award 10 students per year full funding to pursue Master's Degrees
at Teachers College. Ten additional students are awarded partial
funding. Deadline: Mid-January.
Paul
and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Paul and
Daisy Soros, Hungarian immigrants and American philanthropists,
established their fellowship program for New Americans in December
1997 with a charitable trust of $50,000,000. The purpose is
to provide opportunities for New Americans under age 30 to achieve
leadership in their chosen fields.
P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship
for Women International Students
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international
organization with broad philanthropic and cultural aims and an
interest in furthering educational opportunities for women. The
International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program that provides
grants for selected women for graduate study in the U.S. and Canada.
They must be citizens or residents of countries other than the U.S.
and Canada.
The maximum
amount awarded to a student is $6,000 for a full 12 months of
study.
Peace Corps Fellows/USA Graduate Studies
Program
Looking for a way to finance your
graduate education after your Peace Corps service is over? Take
advantage of Peace Corps' Fellows/USA Program, which works with more
than 30 universities that offer financial assistance to returned
Peace Corps volunteers who pursue graduate studies in a variety of
subject areas. Through internships, returned volunteers help meet
the needs of underserved U.S. communities. As Peace Corps Fellows,
they earn graduate degrees and/or credentials at reduced cost.
Peace Corps Master's International Program
Through partnerships with more than 40
campuses across the United States, the Master's International (MI)
Program offers the opportunity to incorporate Peace Corps service
into a master's degree program. Participating graduate schools
establish and monitor academic requirements, and the Peace Corps
places MI students overseas as volunteers. Students apply to both
the Peace Corps and participating graduate school (s) and must be
accepted by both. MI students complete one, and in a few cases, two
years of coursework before starting a Peace Corps assignment
overseas. Assignments are developed by Peace Corps in-country staff
at the request of host countries. During Peace Corps service,
volunteers work toward a thesis, professional paper, or other
culminating project, under the direction of their faculty and with
the approval of Peace Corps overseas staff.

Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) Fellowships

Program Description: PIRG fellowships provide
recent college graduates with the training and experience to assume
leadership positions in the public interest movement. Fellows work
side-by-side with the organizations' top researchers, attorneys,
scientists and lobbyists. They build expertise on a social problem,
conduct research and report on that problem, acting as spokespeople
to the media. A 2-year commitment is required.

International Scholarship Program

Program Description: The program provides academic-year,
multi-year and cultural scholarships to study abroad for undergrads.
For graduates, Rotary World Peach Scholarships pay for 2-year
master's or certificate programs in international relations, peace
studies and conflict resolution at one of seven Rotary Centers for
International Studies located at universities across the globe.
After study abroad has been completed, scholars share their
experiences with the people of their home countries and with local
Rotarians who sponsored their scholarships.

Program Description: If you are a minority, you can apply
for a generous Master's degree fellowship, apprenticeship or
internship in Newspaper Journalism which provides free tuition, a
$1,100/month stipend, health insurance and other benefits. Students
do not have to be journalism majors to apply. The application

SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS
The Council of American Ambassadors Fellowship Program
combines mentoring by former U.S.
ambassadors, practical training through internships at the
Department of State and, in cooperation with The Fund for American
Studies, academic studies in international affairs at Georgetown
University, as well as residential housing on campus. The Fellowship
provides a $5,000 award to each student that is applied to cover the
cost of the program. The Fellowships are open to undergraduate
students who will be entering their senior year in the semester
following their internships and are available only during summer
sessions. Applications of persons chosen by the Department of State
for internships in Washington, DC and who have authorized the
Department to provide their information to other organizations will
be forwarded to the Council and The Fund for consideration. Email

The
Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship Program
Sponsored by the College of William and Mary, this program
provides a $5,000 award for two U.S. college students to work in the
U.S. embassies in Paris and London and one U.S. college student to
work in a component of the Office of the Secretary. The fellowships
are available during summer sessions only. Applications of persons
chosen by the Department of State for internships in London or Paris
or in a component of the Office of the Secretary and who have
authorized the Department to provide their information to other
organizations will be forwarded to the Pamela Harriman Foreign
Service Fellowship Program for consideration. Only undergraduate
students entering their junior or senior year and graduating seniors
continuing their studies will be considered for a fellowship. Email
