May 16 (Wed) 3:30pm, Four Winds Cafe. Ambassador George M. Staples, requested the opportunity to meet with New College students and get their opinions. Director General Staples  will be at New College’s Four Winds Café on May 16th at 3:30pm. Staples has been a career member of the Foreign Service for 25 years and is responsible for the personnel of the Foreign Service, the recruiting, the Foreign Service Exam, the training, assignment and supervision of the diplomatic corps. Ambassador Staples has held positions as: most recently, the Political Advisor to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) at NATO in Belgium; from 1998-2001, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Rwanda, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea; Deputy Chief of Mission in Bahrain and Zimbabwe, Senior Watch Officer in the State Department’s Operation Center, and Senior Turkey Desk Officer in the Bureau of European Affairs during the first Gulf War. His other assignments include: The Bahamas, Uruguay, and El Salvador. He also served as a National Security Fellow at the Hoover Institution. Prior to joining the State Department, Ambassador Staples served as a military officer in the U.S. Air Force, and as a manager in private industry.  Ambassador Staples speaks French, Spanish and Turkish.

Nov 15 (Wed) 6:30pm, Four Winds Café, presentation by Dr. Rudolph Boone:  "Working or Interning for the U.S. Foreign Service”. Dr. Boone served twenty years both overseas and domestically with the U.S. Dept. of State as a Foreign Service Officer.  He has extensive experience in consular, refugee, immigration affairs, international labor issues, and U.S./Caribbean relations having worked in embassies in Africa, Central America, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia.

TFA corps members take on challenging, two-year, paid positions in urban and rural school districts across the country, from Miami-Dade to New York and Hawaii. They then go on to be leaders in all professional sectors to effect change nationally.

The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Centera Nat'l network of nonprofits, will be on the NCF campus Wed, Nov 8 at 7:30pm in HCL7, to discuss careers in the field of community organizing and to schedule interviews with students interested in working for social justice.  DART is currently in the midst of its national recruitment search to hire 26 graduating students into the DART Organizers Institute, a nationally renowned, paid training program in grassroots community organizing. Upon graduation of the program, Organizer Trainees are among the best trained organizers in the country and are offered full-time jobs within the DART Network! Bring your lunch and learn as University of Florida professor Joe Delfino will speak on the topic, "Does Florida Have Sustainable Water Resources for the Future?" Afterwards he will talk to interested students about graduate admission guidelines for UF's programs in Environmental Engineering Sciences and Interdisciplinary Ecology.

The Florida PIRG is a grassroots advocacy group for environmental and socio-political issues in the Sunshine State. The group is recruiting summer hires who will perform research and advocacy and serve as liaisons to educate lawmakers and other groups about critical issues. 
Additionally an afternoon workshop and recruitment session takes place on Nov. 17, Wed. , 5 - 6 p., in the Diversity & Gender Ctr., Ham Ctr.
