Forms for Off-Campus Study

Your individual program will post its own deadlines for the applications materials that the program requires.

Negotiating Your Contract

All study abroad or study off-campus endeavors should start by discussing plans witll your contract sponsor. When negotiating the requirements for off-campus contracts, you should consider such factors as the quality of the institution, the level of the courses to be taken, and the integration of tile work into your academic program at New College. Faculty-sponsored tutorials will require additional attention to detail.

Five Ways to Study Off-Campus

Florida University or College Programs

Apply directly to programs sponsored by any Florida university or college. Programs tlIat are sponsored by a Florida college will honor Bright Futures Scholarships. Your entire financial aid package is usually retained and applicable to study off-campus.

National Student Exchange Program

Apply for an exchange in the United States or Canada (including Puerto Rico, Guam or tl,e U.S. Virgin Islands) or an international exchange (including Denmark, France, Germany, IVIexico, Netherlands and Spain) through the National Student Exchange and retain Bright Futures Scholarships and financial aid.
Normal tuition is paid to New College. The deadline to apply is February 20.

Any Accredited University or College Program

Apply to any accredited study abroad program offered tluough any university. Bright Futures does not apply but most otller scholarships will. Payment is made to program.

Independent Programs

Apply to an accredited program offered by one of many independent, privately owned study abroad providers. Examples of these organizations are Living Routes, School for International Training and Cultural Experiences Abroad. In short, tllese organizations are in tl,e business of providing study abroad.
Payment is made to program.

Individual Tutorials

Create and design your own tutorials sponsored by New College professors. Undertakings should reflect work and endeavors that equal the same amount of study and academic rigor as a contract on campus. This option requires a high degree of independence, organization and commitment.  You'll need to
coordinate long distance progress reports, feedback and advising witll sponsors. Bright Futures Scholarships and otller financial aid apply. Tuition is paid to New College.

Summer Options

Bright Futures does not apply to summer studies. Options for summer study are many and less expensive than traditional semesters, however, you will need to fund the study independently. Additionally, you may pursue a summer semester at another college or university to compress the semesters required for
graduation into a shortened time period (thus, seven semesters could be completed, with a summer session, in three years instead of three-and-a-half years.)

Summer ISP

With faculty approval and sponsorship you can conduct ISPs during the summer. Federal research laboratories, archaeological field schools, and research universities offer IaboratolJ' and field research opportunities and/or intensive enrichment studies to visiting students. Students take many stations during
summer ISP and have interned at federal laboratories, university medical research labs, and the American Economics Association Sununer Minority Program at Stanford University, to name a scant few.
