Assistant Professor in Biology and Environmental Studies

New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology and Environmental Studies starting August 2014. New College, situated on Sarasota Bay on Florida's Gulf Coast, is a nationally-recognized, highly-selective public honors college with an 11:1 student:faculty ratio. We use narrative evaluations in lieu of grades and require all students to finish a senior thesis. The College's bayfront location within an environmentally progressive county facing many state-wide challenges (e.g., invasive exotics, sea level rise, coastal development, fresh water accessibility) offers rich opportunities for community partnerships working towards understanding and meeting tomorrow's demands.

We are looking for scholars with expertise in biological systems and their interactions with social, economic, political and/or cultural processes. Successful candidates should have a dedication to undergraduate teaching and research, and a Ph.D. in ecology or a closely-related field, with a firm commitment to environment studies. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary teaching and research setting is desired. Teaching responsibilities are two courses each semester, plus supervision of tutorials, independent study projects, and senior theses.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses in Biological Systems/Environmental Studies each year. The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

A complete application includes a letter of application, curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation, a statement of teaching philosophy (with course proposals), and a description of proposed research (involving undergraduates). Click here to apply online. To receive full consideration, applications should be complete by November 25, 2013. Please contact with any questions.
