Biography:

What do you value most about studying at NCF?
The liberty to truly be a designer in my education, both literally and metaphorically speaking. An example of what makes NCF so special? It is unique and a most surreal system of thought. Nowhere else will one become exposed to such a process of growth academically, and socially. It is really what you want it to be/what you make it and in that sense similar to life at large. If you want to strive and break out into something outstanding and grand you have the liberty to do so. And at the end of your time here, it is anything and everything - all of the energy you have put into it staring straight back at you ten fold. I think it is important to recognize the opportunities and possibilities of such a college. As most undergraduate programs are very limiting and strict in their curriculums, New College has held true to its original system of beliefs and continues to allow the student to really delve and not fall into some sort of alphabetical evaluating. Discussion, feedback and communication are key elements to such success. I believe there is a goldmine of brilliant minds and resources available, and are all here to allow it's students to make solid contributions to a variety of fields and focuses.

What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Take full advantage of the ISP periods and of tutorials. Research and mold your curriculum to tailor your individual needs and drive. With such freedom comes great responsibility, it is all about the happy balance of the work hard, play hard philosophy.

What internships, clinicals or class projects were especially important to your professional development?
Interning at both the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) and the CUE Art Foundation in New York City over an ISP and summer.

Additionally, I interned last spring at the Rosa Santos Galeria in Valencia, Spain. Backpacking through Peru and completing my second ISP documenting Peruvian culture through Spanish diary entries and photography. I have had the ability to travel, study and have internships in 9 countries and 3 continents over the past 3.5 years.

How would you rate your experience at NCF overall?
Thought provoking, challenging, mind expanding and an intellectual landmine. Additionally I would like to state specifically...Living in dorms designed by I.M. Pei has been beautiful and is truly the most aesthetic architectural experience of my life. The spaces have created quite an interesting interaction and a most outstanding, inspiring sensation of residing in a living piece of modern functional historical art. Imagine waking up for 3 years in the Guggenheim, except there was better lighting and a sunset to watch every night.

What are your plans for the future?
I will be making the move to Manhattan to continue my education on a graduate level to pursue a career in art, design and photography in January of 2006.
