Biography:
What led you to choose NCF for this degree?
I chose New College because I've been able to visit it several times and every time I came people were incredibly friendly and upbeat and obviously excited about the education they were getting. I was also interested in a very small school, because living in Gainesville just showed me what I didn't want out of a college (UF). I've also always been somewhat of an outcast and New College seemed like the right place to be with such awkward social tendencies.
An example of what makes NCF so special?
Independent Study Projects that I actually get credit for. The idea that I can pursue a topic or an issue that means something to me, especially when it's not a class or offered as a tutorial, is especially special to me. Even though I haven't done an ISP yet, I'm still incredibly excited about doing something that really motivates me. (please don't take that away from me!)
What internships, clinical's or class projects were especially important to your professional development?
I'm incredibly excited about being able to intern at Mote Marine. I've done a summer program over there before and I can't wait to actually be involved in their research.
How would you rate your experience at NCF overall?
Well, I haven't been here for very long yet, but it's definitely been a great experience. I've already been shown that this was the right choice for me, because even though it's so small, there's still an unbelievable amount of opportunity to help not only myself but to make a difference in the systems around me.
What are your plans for the future?
I think it's a little early to really know what I want to do in the future, but I really hope it involves marine biology, studying abroad and making a difference. My biggest wish of anything is that I find something that I love doing and am good at.
