Academic Learning Compacts

The Florida Board of Governors has articulated the importance of student learning and achievement in its strategic planning and accountability processes. Simultaneously, the Board has placed more emphasis on institutional accountability while permitting campus-level decisions about implementation details. The Board of Governors has mandated that all baccalaureate programs in the State of Florida public universities develop Academic Learning Compacts (ALCs) that are student learning outcomes in three areas:

  1. discipline-specific knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors
  2. communication
  3. critical thinking

The expectation is that each program will assess those student learning outcomes.
