Research Interests:

Experience:
Jono Miller is a generalist with three decades experience in Southwest Florida as an educator, consultant and activist. He has been centrally involved in Sarasota County’s environmental land protection efforts for over twenty years and over 48,000 acres. He currently chairs both the Myakka River Management Coordinating Council and Sarasota County's Environmentally Sensitive Lands Oversight Committee and is a past chair of SCOPE (Sarasota County Openly Plans for Excellence). He enjoys teaming up with faculty members in fine arts, biology, literature and other disciplines to explore sense of place, the local environment and the Florida landscape.

Although her title falls under the Office of the Provost,
Julie continues to assist the ESP with administration, planning and evaluation and team-teaching environmental classes with regular faculty members.
Classes Taught:
Dealing with sense of place, oceans, integrative learning, local natural history and senior research.
Experience:
Long record of public service regarding environmental issues in Florida. She was a Commissioner of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and its predecessor the Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission from 1992 through 2001. Currently a council member of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.

Experience:
Nicole van der Berg is a six year resident of Sarasota, originally from Columbus, Ohio. She attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science. As a recent addition to the environmental studies program, she is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of Florida’s environmental issues and contributing to the New College community.
