2007-08 New Music Season Launches Sept. 15

(August 23, 2007) New College of Florida presents the ninth season of contemporary music, New Music New College, which begins Sept. 15 and runs through the spring semester.

Guest artists include pianist/performance artist Kathleen Supové, the Sylvia Smith Percussion Duo, The JACK Quartet, a “New Music Cabaret,” featuring compositions by New College graduate Silas Durocher performed by professional regional musicians, and a seminal work by British composer Cornelius Cardew performed by New College students.

The program invites audiences to experience new music and provides educational opportunities for New College students, including the participation of guest artists in classroom residencies and a spring event that showcases student creativity.

The series is under the direction of music Associate Professor Stephen Miles.

All concerts take place Saturday evenings at 8, with the exception of the Nov. 16 and April 26 performances. Tickets for the 2007-08 series are $10 per concert for the public, or $35 for a season subscription, which includes several free bonus events. New College of Florida students, faculty and staff may attend concerts at no charge. Most are in New College's Sainer Pavilion, Caples Fine Arts Complex, Bay Shore Road.
