Kathy Allen Appointed New Registrar

(June 29, 2007) – Kathy Allen, who has served as interim registrar since January, has been appointed registrar of New College of Florida, effective July 1.

Allen, who had served as associate registrar at New College since 2001, replaces as registrar Adrian Cornelius who left in early February to become dean of enrollment management at Savannah State University.

As head of the Office of the Registrar, Allen will oversee academic records and registration, including the staff, budget and Student Evaluation System.

A New College employee since 1992, Allen began as a registrar/admissions officer and became a senior registrar/admissions officer in 1996. She served as acting director of Records and Registration in 2000-01, when New College was part of the University of South Florida.

Allen earned a bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary social science in 1990, a master of arts in counselor education in 1992 and a certificate in public administration in 1998, all earned from USF-Sarasota.

She is a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, the Florida Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and of NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Dr. Sam Savin, New College's provost and vice president for academic affairs who announced her appointment following a national search for a new registrar, said Allen's goals "include maintaining and improving the high level of service to students and faculty that the office enjoyed under her interim leadership" and to enhance the office’s information-technology operations.
