Senior Adesh Seuraj plans to donate scholarship
The $500 scholarship, offered to one Sarasota-area college student per year, is for tuition and textbooks. The soon-to-graduate student, however, plans to donate his award to ecological organizations, such as Greenpeace and Conservation for Wild Ethics. Seuraj, who is originally from Trinidad-Tobago, is a double major in chemistry and environmental studies at New College. For his senior thesis, he has conducted research to create biodegradable plastics using plants – in his study, switchgrass – instead of oil. After graduating, Seuraj will teach for a year as a chemistry instructor at St. Mary's College in Trinidad, West Indies. He plans a career as an environmental chemist. # # # New College of Florida is a national leader in the arts and sciences and is the State of Florida’s designated honors college for the liberal arts.
