College's Fulbrights
Florida House, Senate pass resolutions; recognize six students on
floor

(April 27, 2007) – The Florida Legislature recognized New
College of Florida and its seven recipients of Fulbright grants with
resolutions passed in both the House of Representatives and the
Florida Senate.
Six of the seven 2007-08 Fulbright recipients traveled to
Tallahassee and were given the unusual recognition of being
introduced on the floor of the House Chamber Thursday, April 26. The six New College
students – Trevor Caughlin, Karlye Dilts, Michael Powers, Alia
Schultz, Ellie Vekert and Bryson Voirin – also were met by Senate
President Ken Pruitt in his office and were taken onto the Senate floor by President Pruitt. (The
seventh New College Fulbrighter, Meghan Rimelspach, was unable to
travel to Tallahassee for health reasons.)
The Florida House passed HR 9105, "a resolution commending New
College of Florida for achieving national prominence among
institutions of high learning."

Six Fulbrighters were
recognized on the floor of the Florida House Thursday, April 26.
They were introduced by Rep. Keith Fitzgerald (at podium), who is also New
College of Florida associate professor of political science.
Standing at back are Mark
Rosenberg, chancellor of the State University System of Florida who came
to the House for the New College presentation, and Reps. Doug
Holder, Michael J. Grant and Ron Reagan.
The Senate resolution, SR 3036, commends "New College of Florida in
Sarasota for ranking first among the nation's public liberal arts
baccalaureate institutions in 2007 and producing one of the highest precentages of Fulbright Scholars of any liberal arts school in the
nation."
