Faculty Artist Kim Anderson's New Paintings to Open in Atlanta Exhibit March 15

March 12, 2007 -- A solo exhibition of new paintings by New College's Kim Anderson, assistant professor of art, opens Thursday, March 15, at the Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta.

Her paintings, which aim to reproduce images gleaned from vintage home movies, reveal the ways in which people "perform" in front of the camera.

This is the second solo show for Anderson in 2007; her work was exhibited in January at Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Anderson, who was on the cover of New American Paintings MFA Annual in 2003, transcribes each image by hand on to the canvas, thereby embracing every inconsistency in the film; it is her documentation of a lived experience. The use of vintage film stills and amateur photography recounts a private event, but the anonymity of the subject enables Anderson to be emotionally distant.

Anderson received her BFA at the California College of Arts and Crafts and her MFA at the University of Florida.
