"What I love about my
professors is that they're always accessible. I can show up at
their office without an appointment and they say "Hey, come in,
Will. Let's have a chat." It's more like they're friends and
colleagues than some separate entity."

"Having private interaction with the faculty is one of the best
things about a small college. Not only are there academic benefits
to personal interaction with the faculty, but all the professors
here are really cool people."
- Philosophy student David Barnett
New College was founded on the
ideal that each student should work directly with professors to map a
personalized intellectual journey. The close-knit community of
scholars at New College reinforces this ideal every day, from the
incredible 11:1 student/faculty ratio, to the interpersonal
relationships created between teacher and student. |

"There's a kind of
intellectual exchange here that's more typical
of grad
school
than of
most undergraduate programs."
- Philosophy professor (and former
student) Aron Edidin
Just as New College attracts a select group of
students, it attracts a select group of scholars. One hundred percent
of New College faculty members are full time and hold Ph.D's. They
have come to New College from the finest universities nationally and
abroad, drawn by an environment that emphasizes excellence in teaching
and fosters achievement in research.

"I strongly believe
that teaching and research are not independent endeavors, but rather
are synergetic processes: teaching can lead to good research
topics,
and conversely, research often provides new ways of explaning and
teaching." - Physics professor Mariana Sendova
New College Faculty members are active researchers as well as dynamic teachers. Every year a number of faculty members receive prestigious awards and grants to support their independent research, while more are published in books and journals which represent the most prestigious academic resources in their fields. The links below show the recent accomplishments of our academic community. |
