The Sarasota "Big Band" Jazz Ensemble which is made up of approx. 25
musicians, directed by Tony Benade, an excellent musician and
accomplished arranger, leads the band playing charts from Tommy &
Jimmy Dorsey, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Benny
Goodman, Woody Herman and Artie Shaw jazz favorites, smooth and
mellow, with some improvisational music.

Norman Finkelstein
will be delivering a lecture
on the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine.
Finkelstein received his doctorate in Political
Science in 1988 from Princeton University.
His thesis examined the theory of Zionism. He
is the author of five books and most recently
taught political theory at DePaul University in
Chicago.

The JACK Quartet will perform
contemporary music that engages
the issues of modernity and history, the persistence of memory and
the imperative of transformation. The program includes works by
Iannis Xenakis, John Zorn, Wolfgang Rihm and Charles Wuorinen.
Comprising violist John Pickford Richards, violinists Ari Streisfeld
and Christopher Otto and cellist Kevin McFarland, the JACK Quartet
has been praised for their "power-house playing" by the Chicago
Sun-Times,and maintains a steady appetite for today's most
demanding string quartet repertoire.
